ALTERNATE FATE LORE

THE WORLD’S MOST ELUSIVE CHAMPION

by Sugar Venom, Sports Analyst
Evil Sports Broadcasting Organization

“You gonna eat that?”

Ten minutes before he skated his way to a first-place medal in the Worldwide Winter Championships in Trostan, the most elusive figure skater in the world plopped down in the chair opposite me, shrugged off his floor-length ice troll fur coat and grabbed up my sandwich before I could say a word.

That’s how I met Vox, a kid who erupted on the scene this year out of Taizen Gate, a hot island known more for its tech than its skating rinks. No one knew who he was when he first arrived on the scene, winning the invitationals in New Aullerium and then placing first in the ultra-competitive Seven Islands Regional Championship, wearing his trademark headphones.

For the world championships, his headphones were carved from ice, as were the shards protruding from his chest and deep blue costume. His fur coat, a nod to the local fauna, caused an uproar among troll rights activists. But Vox was no stranger to uproars. He stunned the world when, at the beginning of his first show, he shot a magic sonar energy from his hands that blasted apart the rink’s speakers.

“I’m not into the same old boring skating music,” he told me with his mouth full of my sandwich. “At my shows, the music comes from inside the audience. Their hearts beat together, their minds make the melody, and we’re all a part of the show.”

His raw athletic talent matched the musical phenomenon. Vox smashed records, landing strings of impossible jumps and leaps with solid technique. During this time of uneasy peace between the two empires, even the Storm Queen of the Eventides sent delegates to take a look. After winning the world championships, Vox astounded the world again by refusing to perform a private show for the queen herself. Only I was unsurprised.

“I don’t care about queens and stuff,” he told me when I asked if he was nervous to perform in front of some of the world’s most important people. “My dad’s a Gythian mechanic. My mom was… she was from the Eventides, I guess, but I’m a Taizen kid. In Taizen Gate, everything’s a party, and I’m always the one throwing the party.”

In all my years of sports reporting, I’d never seen an athlete so at ease before a performance. “But so much is on the line,” I said. “Don’t you care what happens?”

“I care desperately,” he said, and took a gulp of my hot chocolate. “This is just how I live my life. I grip it and rip it. I give everything my best shot.”

Vox disappeared in a shroud of mystery from the world stage after winning it all. Rumors abound, but even the most exhaustive search turns up only the occasional low-budget Taizen gathering, where a mysterious boy is said to throw raves using no speakers, microphones, or tech of any kind except his ever-present headphones.

The world of figure skating, everyone agrees, is a snooze without him. Vox, if you’re out there, we’re all eagerly awaiting your return to the rink.

ALTERNATE FATE LORE

Becoming the Kestrel

“Focus: tip of nose. Do not cross eyes. Settle energy down inside belly. No blinking.”

The porcupine archery master of Les Sept-Îles accepted one apprentice a year, for a hefty fee, from the Storm Queen’s best young students. His severe eyes were beady and dark, his nose large and round. Glorious silver quills burst out from his forehead and back, but his chest, belly and limbs were human. He sat, in his black hakama trousers and sash, on the forest floor, watching the girl who, at fifteen years old, had already affected a permanent scowl.

A raven, one hundred paces away, also watched. He always watched.

The girl gripped the bow with her left hand and set her gaze. Her breathing settled. The master circled behind.

“Embrace large tree.”

Her elbows expanded, her fingers curled around the grip just so, the root of her thumb and little finger touching.

“Fine. Raise the bow.”

The bow scooped up, the girl’s fists rising above her forehead.

“No energy in chest and shoulders.”

She pushed her left arm forward, her right elbow back in tandem… and paused. Her arms shook. She locked her jaw, held her breath and strained, but the string would pull no further. She eased the string back and let out a frustrated breath.
“The draw’s too heavy,” she complained.

“Always the draw too heavy, the wind too fast, the rabbit too unpredictable.” The master stood, plucking errant camellia petals from his quills.

“I draw my bow one hundred times every morning and one hundred times every night, as you instructed. Something is wrong with this bow.”

The master took the bow from her. “I re-strung it. Heavier draw.” He plucked a long, stiff quill from his back, fanned out his feet, breathed, drew the bow, and shot the quill through a falling camellia flower fifty paces away.

“You wanted me to fail,” said the girl, her eyes filling with frustrated tears.

The porcupine man laughed with a nasal wheeze. “You pull with chest and arms, you succeed with a lighter draw. You breathe wrong, get lazy. Blink. Fine for hitting target. Fine for big beast drinking at a stream, maybe.” He flicked her ear, bruised and swollen from string snaps, and she gasped. “You are queen’s soldier. Instrument of war. Your targets are small and quick and strike back. You must be a war bird. A kestrel.”

“I don’t want to be a kestrel,” she whispered. “I want to stay here and become a master like you. Please…” She knuckled her eyes. “Don’t make me go back to the queen.”

The master’s tiny mouth twitched. He kicked at the insides of her feet, sliding them back into position. “You are the kestrel already. The arrow exists now in the target.” He handed the bow back to her. “Again. Power in belly, in legs, in feet, in center. Not in weak arms and chest. Power from the ground is strong enough for a heavier draw.”

Her gaze extended from her nose to the grass, to the sky, to the pagoda sinking into the distant morning fog. Her belly growled. Here, somewhere, was prey fit for a war bird.

The air lifted, held her as she hovered, weightless. The whispering cool wind fluttered her feathers. Her keen eyes scanned the ground and trees and, one hundred paces away, found it: the raven.

Her elbows expanded; her fingers curled around the grip just so, the root of her thumb and little finger touching. Her energy dropped with her breath, sank into her belly, so hungry, then into her legs, her feet, the ground. The raven felt her gaze and laughed at her.

The bow scooped up, fists above her forehead. Her left wing pushed forward, her right wing expanded back in tandem. Her chest ballooned with air. The string pulled back, far back, way back, behind her ear.

The arrow sailed away. The bow spun in her grip, the string against her wing. The raven fell.

“Fine,” said the master, settling into the grass. “Again.”

Introducing ‘Blueprints’ – Vainglory’s New Skins System Coming in Update 2.12

  • Vainglory
  • |
  • Jan 17, 2018

Update 2.12 introduces a brand-new skins-crafting system to Vainglory, delivering on one of the most-requested game features after 5V5. The new system is simpler, far easier to use and focuses players on a hunt for a single desirable collectable: skin “blueprints.”

HOW THE NEW SYSTEM WORKS:

Complete quests to find skin blueprints in your loot. Each skin has a unique blueprint.

Unlock the skin by spending your single blueprint and the required Essence.

Crafting costs vary based on the skin’s type. (Crafting a Rare skin requires the blueprint + 1000 Essence; crafting an Epic skin requires the blueprint + 2500 Essence; crafting a Legendary skin requires the blueprint + 5000 Essence.)

That’s it!

WHY THE REVAMP

New and longtime players have consistently told us that the tiered, card-based skins system is too muddled, difficult to navigate and requires painfully repetitive behavior, like individually destroying hundreds of cards for Essence. In addition, the card system bogged down loot drops with undesirable commons and created UI clutter.

The revamp unifies two largely disconnected systems, clearing up all the related confusion.

THE HUNT FOR BLUEPRINTS BEGINS!

In the new system, players can focus their attention on finding blueprints (one for each skin). Once the blueprint is discovered, all that’s needed is the Essence to finish crafting the skin. Essence is the same for all skins, so this common pool can be easily distributed however you want. And instead of scanning through a skin collection looking at “79/8” cards (lel) and doing a ton of mental math, you’ll know exactly where you stand at all times.

If you find a skin blueprint you already have, it will automatically convert into a bunch of Essence you can use toward crafting any skin. If you find a blueprint for a skin you’re not interested in, you can always destroy that blueprint for Essence to put toward a different skin.

To discover new blueprints, complete in-game quests. Every time you complete a quest, a blueprint might drop as chest loot.

In Update 2.12, in-game quests are the primary way to acquire blueprints, but we’re looking to introduce more ways to get blueprints over time, whether that’s rewards systems or special offers or something entirely new.

BONUS BLUEPRINTS BASED ON SKIN PROGRESS

Do you have a skin in progress but won’t have time to finish it? We didn’t forget about you.

  • If the Essence value of the non-common cards you own for a skin is at least 33% of the Essence needed to craft the skin, we’ll gift you the blueprint for that skin automatically. (Basically, if you already have 33% of the progress for that skin, we’re giving you its blueprint when Update 2.12 launches.)
  • All existing cards in your library will be automatically destroyed for Essence at their full crafting value.
  • You will only be granted blueprints for skins currently craftable, but you will get Essence for all of the cards you had.
  • For any cards for uncraftable skins and for Limited Edition and Special Edition skins, cards will be destroyed at the highest Essence value.

EXAMPLE OF GRANDFATHERED SKIN PROGRESS

YumaRanken is hoping that in Update 2.12, she’ll get the Kandi Twirl Koshka (Legendary) blueprint. To get the “grandfathered” blueprint automatically, she needs cards worth at least 33% of the Essence required to craft the skin, which is 1,188 Essence.

When YumaRanken looks at her Kandi Twirl Koshka (L) card collection today, she has a bunch of non-common cards worth 2,160 Essence, based on their crafting value. (Rares craft at 30 Essence; Epics craft at 120 Essence; Legendaries craft at 360 Essence.)

That’s more than enough to get the Blueprint automatically!

WHAT’D I GET?!

If you want to check which blueprints you got when Update 2.12 hits, just head to your SKINS browser.

If you’re interested in all the nitty-gritty numbers for the new skins system, keep an eye out for a more complete chart/breakdown being published by AdyEndrus separately prior to Update 2.12’s release.

EXISTING CARD ART COLLECTIONS

Wait … Did you just say you’re automatically destroying my card collection?!

That’s correct. We’re removing all the cards from the game, and in doing so freeing up a ton of clutter and memory usage. But we recognize there are a lot of players who enjoyed collecting cards and admiring the card art. That’s why we are retaining the data of each player’s individual card collection. We intend for your personal card art library to return sometime in the future in a new, different form. It’s likely some ways away and it’s premature to talk about that right now, but we know how many of you feel and we’re all over this.

SKIN RENAMING

Eliminating the three-tiered skins system necessitated breaking apart our existing tiered skins such as Catherine’s “Paragon” skin line. Now, instead of three different skins all named “Paragon Catherine” of different rarities, you’ll find “Queen’s Knight” Catherine, “Paragon” Catherine and “Serpent Mask” Catherine all individually listed in-game.

While the tiers are gone, we’ve introduced new skin “themes” across heroes for you to collect, including an “Ice” theme (Glaive, Krul, Reim, Skaarf), a “Churn” theme (Phinn & Rona) and two additions to the “School Days” theme (Joule & Samuel, joining Taka, Lyra, Vox & Koshka).

These themes are just to collect for fun; there’s no relationship you have to worry about for skin crafting. We’ll also take advantage of these skin themes to create sale bundles and special boxes.

HIGHER RANDOMNESS; LOWER SKIN PRICES

While the new system is cleaner and simpler, it also means targeting a specific skin to craft will be harder because of the randomness of blueprint loot. You can’t control which blueprint will drop, so if you have your heart set on a particular skin, you may want to more often purchase it with ICE.

Because of this, we’re reducing prices for the vast majority of skins, so your premium purchases will go much further. Actual prices vary depending on the skin. This is an especially good option if you don’t want to take the time to craft a skin or must have one skin in particular.

The contents of Rare and Epic Mystery Chests may also change over time as our systems evolve.

SPECIAL EDITION SKINS

Special Edition skins will not have blueprints in Update 2.12, although it’s possible this will change in the future. For now, the primary way to get Special Edition skins remains collecting and spending Opals and participating in special boxes and bundles.

LIMITED EDITION SKINS

If you’re a Vainglory OG who has the original seven limited-edition skins, those are still sacred and will not be craftable. If you don’t have them already, there’s no way to get them.

If you’re a Golden Tickeholder, you’ll be receiving the Limited Edition Golden Netherknight Lance skin in Update 2.12 as a gift. That LE skin is also not craftable in the new system.

We’re confident this new skins-crafting system will be a better experience for new and dedicated players alike. Give it a try, and after you’ve used it enough to form an opinion, tell us what you think. With your help, we’ll refine and improve the system over time.

Look Ahead: What to Expect from Vainglory in January and February

  • Vainglory
  • |

Vainglory’s next two updates will usher in a new era, with the release of 5V5 Early Access and the public worldwide release in milestone Update 3.0. But there are other large changes coming to Vainglory as well, including a UI revamp, an account level cap increase, an entirely overhauled skins system and changes to skins pricing. Here is an information megapack on what to expect in the coming months. …

UPDATE 2.12 & MILESTONE 3.0 PLANS

Please note that Vainglory does not control the app approval process and timing, and we also always reserve the right to push back release dates based on QA and technical assessments. All dates are approximations.

UPDATE 2.12

  • Expected release: Jan. 29-31
  • Highlights:

GOLDEN TICKETS

  • Golden Ticketholders gain in-game Early Access to Vainglory 5V5! This is different from our Alpha testing environment you saw unveiled at the World Championship and may have seen in videos from teams and YouTube creators since. We will continue to invite more players who pre-registered into this as well to give as many people as possible a chance at Early Access.
  • Golden Ticketholders get an exclusive Limited Edition Golden Netherknight Lance (Epic) skin. This LE skin will never be sold or available for unlock in any form. The eventual Special Edition version to be released later will be substantially different, just like all past LE/SE skins. We hope this skin gives Golden Ticketholders an extra-awesome way to kick off your 5V5 Early Access.

OUT-OF-GAME UI VISUAL REVAMP

Work in progress, not final art.

Vainglory is about to get a significant cosmetic overhaul. We are moving to a front end that is more intuitive and that lets us add new features more easily throughout 2018. We are taking the first steps in this regard in Update 2.12. Expect the front end to evolve significantly in future updates. This overhaul also includes iPhone X optimization. For more details, read the full article.

ACCOUNT LEVEL CAP INCREASE

Feel like you’ve been stuck at Level 30 forever? Even worse, do you have that weird half-full progress bar? Get ready to move forward. We’re adding 10 new account levels in Update 2.12, which will give you more rewards to play for.

SKINS SYSTEM OVERHAUL

Update 2.12 introduces a brand-new skins-crafting system to Vainglory. The new system is simpler, far easier to use and focuses players on a hunt for a single desirable collectable: skin “blueprints.” Get all the details.

SKIN PRICING CHANGES

UPDATE 3.0

  • Expected release: Mid-February
  • Highlights:

Read Part One: The Theft of the Wizard’s Brew
Read Part Two: The True Conspiracy

Part Three: Melting Day

The lion and the scarecrow followed a line of marching minions, each carrying a bowl of ice cream, to the tin castle’s tin courtyard. Tin flowers bloomed all around a tin fountain from which steaming coffee bubbled. At the top of the fountain stood the Tin Queen of the West.

“Look! It is our old friend, and the fountain of wizard’s brew, just like you promised,” said the lion, feeling relieved for the first time in days.

Oui,” said the scarecrow. “It is Melting Day, when everyone in the West celebrates the melting of the Wicked Witch by eating ice cream melted with coff… wizard’s brew. But what is this?”

The crowd stopped abruptly, minions knocking into one another, as three powerful magicians blocked the fountain.

“When the witch ruled the West, minions had a purpose!” cried one magician.
The startled minions clutched their little bowls with both hands, looking to their queen whose painted tin face showed, as always, no expression. Her voice rang out: “My darling minions-uns-uns, the Wicked Witch created you to fight. Now you are free to serve your own purpose.”

Another magician sneered. “Without the witch, you have no enemies. Without enemies, you fight one another!”

The minions squabbled over whether to believe the magicians or the queen. Handfuls of ice cream flew as the argument intensified.

“Naughty minions. How quickly you forget your bondage under the rule of the Wicked Witch!” called the queen, but the magicians countered.

“Minions deserve a great leader!” yelled the malicious magician. “You must embrace the principles that made the West great.”

“Build a fire!” cried another magician. “Melt the Tin Queen!”

The minions cheered and built a roaring fire in the tin courtyard. “Melt! Melt! Melt!” cried the minions as one. The queen gripped her axe atop the fountain, tears flooding down her tin face.

“Why does she do nothing?” cried the lion.

“Now that she has a heart, the tin queen has too much compassion to fight the magicians,” sighed the scarecrow.“

“If only I could reach the fountain, I could drink up some courage,” whined the lion, “but the magicians have it surrounded.”

“Oh well,” shrugged the scarecrow. “I suppose the tin queen must be melted.”
The queen flicked away her tears: clink clink clink, then opened a compartment in her chest. From inside of herself she removed the sawdust-stuffed silk heart that she had received from the wizard. In horror, her friends watched as she dropped her heart into the fire and took up her axe.

“Target: magician one-un-un,” said the queen, and leaped down upon the closest of the magicians.

“Let us help her,” said the scarecrow, taking up his scythe.

Bolts of magic light flew, zapping the queen as she cried out in electric pain.

“I can’t do it,” whimpered the lion. “My heart is beating too fast.”

“Do it for our friend, who has no heart,” said the scarecrow in a gentle way.

The lion’s lip curled up, his teeth bared, and he leaped into the crowd. With a wry smile, the scarecrow followed, careful to avoid sparks. The lion’s commanding roar terrified the minions away and his axe split one surprised magician in two. The scarecrow’s vials exploded, turning a second magician into a poof of black ash. Glinting in the morning sun, the tin queen’s axe whooshed through the third magician. All watched in horror as his head landed in a bed of tin roses.

There was a short silence, then the minions leaped in the air. “Hooray!” they cried, triumphant, for they were a simpleminded lot. They went about extinguishing the fire and collecting up their discarded ice cream bowls while the three monarchs reunited.

“Thank you-oo-oo,” said the tin queen, “but as long as the minions are not given a purpose, they will be swayed by anyone.”

“Then a purpose you shall give them,” said the scarecrow, who had always been the cleverest of them.

Now, people come from the North and South and East to watch the Annual Minion Water Balloon Tournament. The Tin Queen rules with compassion, the Forest King with courage, and the Scarecrow King with intelligence, all of their lands at peace.

Alright kid, whaddya want? Keep it snappy. Got a long line of drippy-nosed kids behind you and the store is closing. Catnip, a ball of yarn and a laser pointer? Can’t say I’ve heard that one before, but who’m I to judge? Off you go. Yeah yeah yeah, Happy Joy Festival.

We got robot kids coming through now? Fine; whaddya want? To be a real girl again? These kids today expecting miracles. You’re getting a dolly, alright? Move along, kid. Happy Joy Festival.

Ho, ho, ho… oof. Careful how you jump on the lap, kid, Santa’s got a bum knee. You want what now? A turntable, a mixer, headphones and high-end speakers? You think Santa’s made of money, I see. I’ll talk to the minions at the North Pole and see what I can do.

NEW HERO: VARYA

bottom_bracket

Varya is an electric valkyrie who devastates enemies by chaining together her abilities to deliver massive damage. Call upon her ultimate, Anvil’s Hammer, to unleash a series of lightning strikes on every enemy hero, no matter where they are on the map.

Varya is unlockable with ICE only for the first seven days. Afterward, you will be able to unlock her with ICE or Glory.

HERO ABILITIES

head_bracket

 CHAIN LIGHTNING (HEROIC PERK)

Varya’s attacks deal crystal damage. If Varya holds her ground after attacking, she will strike her target and additional enemies with a bolt of Chain Lightning. This bolt deals the same damage and consumes energy.

STORMFORGED SPEAR (A)

Varya throws a lightning spear that deals damage to the first enemy hero hit. The lightning will then bounce to nearby enemies dealing damage. Stormforged Spear has a reduced cast time when used during or after Arc Recursion.

ARC RECURSION (B)

After gathering power, Varya’s next two move commands will instantly dash in the chosen direction, dealing damage to nearby enemies upon arrival. Varya gains energy and some of her health as barrier for each enemy hit. Varya can cancel this early to dash a single time.

ANVIL’S HAMMER (ULTIMATE)

After channeling, Varya calls down a series of lightning strikes on all enemy heroes, dealing damage per hit.

Ranking up this ability increases Varya’s attack speed and the number of enemies struck by Chain Lightning and Stormforged Spear.

THUNDERSTORM (LEGENDARY)

Anvil’s Hammer (Ult) delivers two additional strikes and no longer has reduced damage for consecutive hits.

NEW SEASONAL MODE: THE ONSLAUGHT BEGINS

bottom_bracket

At the heart of any MOBA is teamfighting action. Players want to feel like superstars — where they’ve unlocked a hero’s full power and their ultimate potential as a gamer — and those rare moments when everything comes together are pure magic. You know you can do no wrong. You’re carrying your team, and you know that your teammates are marveling at your skill. The only complaint a MOBA player has in times like these is they wish they weren’t so rare.

Enter “Onslaught,” a new Vainglory short BRAWL game mode where two teams of three players lock horns in escalating rounds of intense, tight-quarters combat. Each round, the stakes are raised, with more gold to spend and new superpowered Talents from which to choose. And because it’s ALL action, your true teamfighting skill emerges nearly every match.

For players who don’t have time for a full 20-minute MOBA match and players who just want short bursts of intense fun, Onslaught will be the new fan favorite.

THREE EASY STEPS

Onslaught’s round-based play is broken down into three parts:

1. SELECT YOUR TALENT

Each round, you can select one talent for the hero you’re playing. Selecting a talent in a round exhausts it; you cannot select it in another round of that Onslaught match.

2. SPEND YOUR GOLD

Each round, you’ll be granted gold along with any gold unspent from prior rounds of the match. Buy items to be stronger in the inevitable teamfights to follow!

3. HIT ‘READY’ … THEN FIGHT!

Once you’ve selected your talent and spent your gold, indicate that you’re ready for the next round. Once all players have hit “ready” the round will start. Note: If you take too long, the round will start anyway, so don’t ponder the options too long! You only get one life each round (no respawning), so make it count!

NOWHERE TO HIDE

If you’ve read this far and are thinking, “I’ll just play a stealth hero and hide the whole match,” well, we thought of that, too. Over time, the play area will shrink, forcing players to fight to the death. There’s no escape from the onslaught.

DEEPER STRATEGY LURKS WITHIN

While plenty of BRAWL players will casually enjoy Onslaught’s action, there is a wellspring of strategic decision-making just beneath the surface:

  • You can deliberately save unspent gold for a bigger bounty to spend next round. Any unspent gold from the previous round will accrue interest for the next one. You’ll be weaker for one round, but you’ll then have an unexpected power spike that others don’t.
  • You can strategically select (or opt-out) of talents each round. Because there are five rounds per match, you’ll only have a talent buff in at most three rounds, and that’s if you have the Rare, Epic and Legendary talents for that hero. You’ll need to decide when you want to be strong, when you can afford to be weaker, and which talent is most important to use when. Should you use your Legendary talent early to balance out lack of items … or should you wait for a big bang of power in the late stages of the onslaught? And since every hero has radically different talents, these decisions vary not just from round to round, but also hero to hero.
  • Your Five-hero Chest just became a thing. In order to maximize your power each match, you’ll need the Rare, Epic and Legendary talents for your hero of choice. Remember: Playing any public game mode with a hero will count toward your Five-hero Chest, and once you’ve completed matches with five different heroes, that chest will pay out with a random combination of Rare, Epic and Legendary talents. This is a great (and free) way to expand your talents collection and give you more options in more rounds of Onslaught combat.

Onslaught is a seasonal BRAWL game mode being introduced for Vainglory’s Winter season start. Also in the works is Vainglory’s long-requested, long-awaited 5v5 mode, which will be unveiled during the 2017 Vainglory World Championship Dec. 14-17. If you haven’t pre-registered for Vainglory 5v5, do it now to get a chance at early 5v5 access and to get the Founding 5v5 player badge! — PlayoffBeard

GOLDEN TICKET: SECURE YOUR SPOT IN VAINGLORY 5V5 BEFORE ANYONE ELSE

bottom_bracket
Vainglory 5V5 will be globally unveiled at the World Championship on Dec. 17, with superior gameplay and strategic depth, the most accurate and responsive controls and the best graphics and highest frame rates on mobile. It’s the completion of a dream that began back in 2014 — long before mobile devices existed that could handle the scope and scale of our ultimate vision.

But those devices and technology are now here, and the unveiling moment is fast approaching. Afterward, one clear question will ring out over and over again: “When can I play it?”

The answer depends on your luck … and your determination.

Before anyone else enters Vainglory 5V5, a fortunate few will achieve Early Access by virtue of something new: Golden Tickets.

WHAT IS A GOLDEN TICKET?

Golden Tickets are the only guaranteed entry system into Vainglory 5V5 Early Access. If you have a Golden Ticket, you will be among the first people ever to set foot on the new map and experience its wonders … and dragons.

HOW DO I GET A GOLDEN TICKET?

You can acquire a Golden Ticket in multiple ways, and you’re welcome to participate in any or all options:

  • Pre-register for Vainglory 5V5 for a chance at Early Access. This enters you into a lottery from which Golden Ticket winners will be drawn. We will conduct multiple drawings, so you have multiple chances of being randomly selected for a Golden Ticket. There’s no downside to this, so pre-register now and also get the “Founding 5V5” player badge as a result.
  • Every quest you complete beginning Dec. 17 could pay out a Golden Ticket. Immediately following the World Championship, when you complete a quest, there’s a small chance that the chest you open will contain a Golden Ticket.
  • Special holiday-themed boxes (arriving Dec. 17). We wanted to include a way to honor those who support Vainglory through premium box purchases. And while the odds of getting a Golden Ticket in these boxes will be quite low, they will be loaded with amazing content that makes every pull very worthwhile, whether you luck into a Golden Ticket or not.

No matter what methods you choose, finding a Golden Ticket will be a rare, special occurrence, so if you succeed, count yourself lucky and congratulations!

DREAMS BECOME REALITY

We are so thrilled to bring this 5V5 dream to life, which belongs as much to Vainglory’s players as our dev team. From the very beginning, we’ve believed that every phone was a portable next-gen console, and that every mobile player deserved games just as core, strategic and performant as players on PC. Vainglory 5V5 speaks to the heart of what Super Evil Megacorp stands for, and our 5V5 MOBA will be deeply strategic and tactical, with console-grade performance, based on deep, original fantasy storytelling.

We’ll see you during the global unveiling of Vainglory 5V5 at Worlds, and afterward, happy Golden Ticket hunting! With a little luck, you’ll be playing 5v5 before everyone else!

HEROES BALANCE

ALPHA

It’s great to finally see more Alpha play, but with the new Dragon’s Eye, Infinite Reboot is reaching some pretty crazy numbers. In addition, the increased energy regen on some items meant players were hitting the cap a bit easier than intended. This change is to ensure the enemy team has a fair chance to stop her reboot.” —Nivmett

INFINITE REBOOT

  • Minimum reboot time increased from 2.0 to 2.5

PRIME DIRECTIVE

  • Crystal ratio reduced from 200% to 180%
  • Crystal ratio per stack reduced from 40%to 30%

ARDAN

Ardan has been a top pick for the past few updates, especially with the new health changes. While we love the plays that were made, the Echo and Gauntlet combo was unhealthy for the game on a number of levels. First, while seeing the Venn diagram was really cool, the possibility of as many as FOUR Gauntlets on the screen at once in a Casual mode could explode low-end devices. Second, in terms of gameplay, carving up a teamfight into tiny safe areas was oppressive, and there’s no amount of Reflex Blocks that could keep the experience from feeling terrible for other players.

“These changes will lower his durability. In addition, we have lowered the damage that support Ardan deals while dusting off his old weapon build.”  —Nivmett

STATS

  • Health reduced from 878-2738 to 838-2638

BLOOD FOR BLOOD

  • Increased bonus damage percent from 25% to 40%
  • Damage reduced from 40/90/140/190/240 to 40/80/120/160/200

GAUNTLET

  • Activating Gauntlet while another Gauntlet is on the map will immediately remove the older Gauntlet. This specifically addresses the double Gauntlet interaction with Echo, which introduced unintended confusion and a great deal of stress on device performance.

BARON

“It’s great to see more Crystal Baron, but he was dealing too much damage.” —Nivmett

PORCUPINE MORTARS

  • Crystal ratio reduced from 190% to 170%

ION CANNON

  • Cooldown reduced from 90/75/60 to 80/65/50

BAPTISTE

“Baptiste was benefiting greatly from the new Clockwork. This change reduces how much he can spam Ordained.” —Nivmett

ORDAINED

  • Cooldown increased from 16/15/14/13/12 to 17/16/15/14/13

BLACKFEATHER

“Blackfeather’s durability was a touch too high.” —Nivmett

ON POINT

  • Health ratio down from 13% to 12%

CELESTE

“Celeste has enjoyed the new item energy changes greatly. While it’s fun that she’s able to use her abilities more freely, the impact her supernova had was not proportional to its availability.” —Nivmett

HELIOGENESIS

  • Supernova crystal ratio reduced from 220% to 200%

FLICKER

“This change will allow for Flicker players to cloak their team much more quickly.” —Nivmett

MOONCLOAK

  • Time before stealth duration from 1.2 to 0.8

GLAIVE

“A change that returns more of Glaive’s built-in tankiness.

STATS

  • Health increased from 784-2453 to 834-2503

GRACE

“Grace needed a slight buff to bring her more in line with other captains.” —Nivmett

STATS

  • Increased armor and shield from 20-60 to 20-70

BENEDICTION

  • Holy Shield damage reduction increased from 30% to 40%

HOLY NOVA

  • Energy cost reduced from 125 to 100

IDRIS

“Idris is a carry who suffered greatly from the Update 2.10 health changes. These buffs will allow him to deal the damage he needs to.” —Nivmett

DIVERGENT PATHS

  • Crystal ratio increased from 90% to 100%

SHROUDSTEP

  • Damage amp increased from 10/15/20/25/35% to 25/30/35/40/50%

JOULE

“Joule’s crystal path has been updated!” —Nivmett

THUNDER STRIKE

  • Crystal ratio increased from 135% to 160%

BIG RED BUTTON

  • Crystal ratio increased from 300% to 350%

KOSHKA

“A bit of love for everyone’s favorite cat.” —Nivmett

“The changes to Shiversteel and Spellsword allowed Krul to feast on his enemies.” —Nivmett

SPECTRAL SMITE

  • Damage per stack reduced from 20/35/50/65/95 to 20/30/40/50/70

LORELAI

“Lorelai had the best of both worlds, so we made changes to differentiate her support and carry paths by adding health scaling to her stun, slow and shield. We also lowered her base damages but increased ratios.

So what do these changes mean? If you play Lorelai as a captain, you’ll be rewarded with stronger crowd control by having more health in your build. In fact, if you hit about 1500 bonus health, you will hit the cap on her A and B skills. On the flipside, those who play her as a carry will have less crowd control at their disposal but will deal greater damage with crystal items.” —Nivmett

THAT’S SWELL

  • Crystal ratio on basic attacks increased from 60% to 70%

FISH FOOD

  • Stun duration reduced from 1 second to 0.45 seconds
  • Health ratio added to stun duration of 0.03% bonus health

  • Crystal ratio on damage per second increased from 90% to 110%

SPLASHDOWN

  • Cooldown increased from 7.5/7/6.5/6/5 to 8/7.5/6/6.5/5.5

  • Crystal ratio reduced from 150% to 100%

LYRA

“Lyra has been a top pick because of her incredible kit since her release. These changes lower her overwhelming power as a captain and give a bit of love to her carry path.”  —Nivmett

  • Crystal ratio on initial basic attack increased from 50% to 60%

IMPERIAL SIGIL

  • Burst heal reduced from 60% to 50%
  • Speed boost reduced from 2.0 to 1.5
  • Health ratio reduced from 13% to 11%

“While we did tone down Reim quite a lot, we tuned a bit extra for safety’s sake. This is to give him back a little power, mainly in the areas that make him the intended crystal bruiser he is and not a super-burst bruiser.” —Nivmett

FROSTGUARD

  • Crystal ratio increased from 70% to 80%
  • Max health fortified health increased from 20% to 25%

  • Fortified health per level from 60/100/140 to 60/95/130

DRAGON’S EYE
Dragon’s Eye is a great item because of its ability to create pressure. It also gives crystal carries the chance to close out fights against tanky teams. These changes will make Dragon’s Eye more accessible as its stacking is similar to the old Broken Myth.” —Nivmett

 Thundersnow

The Secret City was silent, muted by falling snow. Varya walked down an empty road between looming barracks, watchtowers, and tall, wide chimneys from which billowed thick smoke. The war between the two mage princes of the Sleeping Land had played out for fifty years, had spanned thousands of bitter cold miles, had eradicated dozens of nomadic tribes. In the Book of Futures, the Worldseer had seen the victory of Prince Aleksandr, but not for another fifty bloody years.

Today, the future would be rewritten.

Varya paused, the icy breeze playing at the fur lining her robes and helm. Snow and ice steamed and melted around her bare legs and sandaled feet. She stomped one foot and the ground below gave a metal clang.

With the rusty creak of hinges, a door in the street swung open and a mop of curly hair popped out.

“Are you the foreman?” Varya asked in the dwarven language.

“Fore-woman,” growled the dwarf in the trap door.

“Very well,” said Varya. “The Storm Queen calls your people to war in Mont Lille.”

The dwarf shook her head free of snow and glared up at Varya. “We’re fine with this war, thanks.”

With one quick yank, Varya pulled the dwarf out of the hole, yowling, by her hair. “The Storm Queen is impressed by your innovations, in particular the tower defenses,” she said, placing the forewoman on her feet.

The forewoman pinched the bridge of her nose, looking down at the dwarves who had collected below. The hammering and steam-whistling echoes of the steel and chrome secret city below the Secret City had gone silent. “Yeah? What’s in it for us?”

Behind Varya, soldiers filed out of the barracks with rifles. From rolling garages came grumbling snow beasts.

“You will outfit the queen’s Citadel and harness the energy of the Well of Power within the mountain. You will have gold, and crystal, and prestige, and if you are successful in defending the Eventides, you will have the rarest payment of all: the thanks of a queen.”

The army made a half-circle behind them. A rifle cocked. A snow beast bellowed with hunger and shook its curled tusks.

A strange sound came from the forewoman’s nose. Only after several moments did Varya realize that she was laughing.

“The thanks! The thanks of a queen!” the dwarf cried, and the ugly nose-sounds grew hysterical. From down below came more of the strange dwarven laughter. “Dwarves have been collecting the thanks of queens and kings since the beginning of our days. With a barrel of royal thanks and a quarter, you could buy a wish from a fountain.”

A rumble sounded in the sky, a faraway thundering; the clouds tumbled over themselves, forming into a dense darkness overhead. Varya held out one hand and smiled. A blue light glowed through her eyes.

The laughter stopped.

With a deafening series of sky-splitting cracks, lightning struck the army, bolt after bolt hammering down from the clouds. Soldiers and beasts alike went stiff and fell dead on their faces in the burnt mud left behind.

The forewoman peered up at Varya, whose mouth formed words unhearable over the loud ringing in her ears. She sighed and looked down the ladder at the other dwarves.

“Alright, pack it up,” she yelled. “We’re going with this lady.”
