While Team SoloMid was invincible during the Summer Live Championships, Hammers Velocity was the team that looked scariest during the first week of the Autumn Season. Velocity rode PONtheoriginal’s dominant jungle Kestrel to take a decisive 2-0 win over TSM in the Finals. This weekend promises to be a dogfight for all teams vying for the precious Evil Eight points that look harder to earn by the week.

Make sure you catch this weekend’s action on www.twitch.tv/vainglory on Saturday and Sunday at 1:30PM PDT!

BRACKET SIDE A:

1:30PM PDT: PHOENIX REIGN VS HAMMERS VELOCITY

Velocity is riding high off of their undefeated romp last weekend in the first week of the Evil Eight, including a 2-0 win over reigning Summer Champions, TSM, while showcasing their new lineup featuring PONtheoriginal in the jungle. The revamped Reign roster looked stronger than most expected, as they took down much-improved Ardent Aurora on Day 1. However, Velocity is looking nearly invincible heading into Week 2 and convincingly beat Reign in the Semifinals last week. Reign will need a strong performance from laner LuluXiu, who was caught out of position several times last week but displayed strong mechanics and potential to be a top player in the Evil Eight.

  • Reign: LuluXiu (lane), XenoTek (jungle), TheRoastedPotato (roam), TheBigDog (sub/flex)
  • Velocity: Zio (lane), PONtheoriginal (jungle/SAW), Aloh4 (jungle), Vains (roam), ttigers (sub/flex).

2:30PM PDT: ARDENT AURORA VS CLOUD9

Both of these teams had disappointing outcomes last week, with neither team advancing to Day 2 of the Evil Eight. C9 is integrating the talented gabevizzle on the fly, and it will inevitably take some time to figure out what works best. Aurora added jungler LoneDelphi and looks stronger than last season, but they had a poor showing in LoneDelphi’s Ardent debut last weekend. C9 will be playing in the Evil Eight from TwitchCon following their showmatch against TSM, so Aurora will try to capitalize on C9’s potential travel fatigue and atypical playing setup this weekend.

  • Aurora: WizardSibs (lane), LoneDelphi (jungle), Poli5208 (roam), Yazaru3 (sub/lane).
  • Cloud9: Hardek (lane), gabevizzle (jungle), iLoveJoseph (jungle), LostBoyToph (roam), Koedz (sub/flex).

BRACKET SIDE B:

3:30PM PDT: HAMMERS KINETIC VS NEMESIS TITAN

Kinetic proved last week that their new roster featuring CullTheMeek is a force to be reckoned with, defeating GankStars Sirius before taking third overall in Week 1. And while MICSHE and Cull have a long history together, they’re still forming chemistry playing with veteran roamer SuiJeneris. Titan had a rough outing against Velocity last week, and their schedule doesn’t get much easier this week. Titan will need to disrupt Kinetic’s rotations from lane into the jungle and punish CullTheMeek’s risky playmaking style to have a chance at advancing to the semifinals this week.

  • Kinetic: MICSHE (lane), CullTheMeek (jungle), SuiJeneris (roam).
  • Titan: Gaspy (lane), DragonDagger (jungle), Riesgo (roam), MaxGreen (sub/roam), HalcyonHavoc (sub/roam).

4:30PM PDT: GANKSTARS SIRIUS VS TEAM SOLOMID

TSM looked absolutely untouchable during the Summer Live Championships, but they looked vulnerable last weekend when they lost 2-0 to Velocity in the Finals. That said, TSM has already punched their ticket to the World Championship, and much like Team Secret in Europe, they might take advantage of Split 1 to experiment or hide their cards. TSM has a rough travel schedule this month, as FlashX was in New York City to compete in an All-Star Game last weekend and the team is in San Diego for TwitchCon this weekend. Sirius entered the split as one of the favorites to claim the final North America berth to the Worlds, but they find themselves at sixth place with only has a single point after a week of play. Oldskool and Statusbaked never lost to TSM during the Evil Eight Summer Season and look to continue the trend this week. GSS need to come out swinging and not make the careless late-game mental errors they made against Kinetic last week to beat TSM.

  • GankStars: Oldskool (lane), Statusbaked (jungle), R3cKeD (roam), Chicken123 (sub/flex) Xelciar (sub/lane).
  • TSM: BestChuckNa (lane), VONC (jungle), FlashX (roam), MissBBBri (sub/roam).
